Wedgwood writes: �at Carigrana Church, Genoa [Italy], these two names constituted the �Soprano� and �Basso� of one stop ... which in all probability was merely a variety of Vox Humana.� Williams cites the examples at Orvieto Cathedral, and translates them as �boys' voice� and �bulls' voice�. Grove dates it at around 1600, and describes it only as �a particularly thin Vox humana�.
