Prinzipalbass German (Primary)


Description:

A Prinzipal of 8', 16' or 32' pitch that appears in the pedal. Not to be confused with the name Principal Bass, which is a name properly given to the bass portion of a split Principal stop in a manual division.


Examples:

Of the name Prinzipalbass, Osiris contains 34 examples at 16' pitch, 9 at 32', and 6 at 8', all in pedal divisions; of the name Principalbass, 47 at 16', 26 at 8', and 6 at 32', all but one in pedal divisions.
