Italian Principal English (Primary)

Venetian Flute English

A diapason/flute hybrid of 8', 4', 2', or 1' pitch. Sumner and Maclean give it a wide scale, while Irwin gives it a moderate scale and narrow mouths. Sumner also says: it might be better called Venetian Flute, because the Italian principals were generally of small scale.

No examples of Venetian Flute are known. Osiris contains about 20 examples of Italian Principal at 1', 2', 4', and 8' pitch.
