Holzgedackt German

Holzgedeckt German (Primary)

Holtzgedackt German

Description:

Listed only by Irwin, who says: A stopped wood Flute of 8' or 4' manual pitch, and 16' pedal pitch, resembling a large-scale Gedeckt in form, and louder than this stop in some examples. In practice, this name means nothing more or less than a Gedeckt made of wood.

Examples:

Osiris contains about 160 examples, nearly all at 8' pitch, with a few at 16' and 4'.

Holzgedackt 8', Positiv; Johannes-Kirche, Helsinki, Finland; Walcker 1891. This is the earliest known example whose date is not seriously suspect.
